Pompeii is one of Italy’s most popular attractions. It is located in next to modern town of Pompei (which is near to Napoli, region of Campania).
I visited ruins of Pompeii and modern town of Pompei a few days ago. Even though we are in winter, the weather was amazing.
Pompeii was an ancient city which was buried under volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. All destroyed in a day because of wind which was blowing the wrong way.
From buried treasures, historians have been discovering life of Ancient Romans in Pompeii. It is an Unesco World Heritage site since 1997.
Today, you can see houses, business and lives of citizens of Ancient Rome by visiting ruins of Pompeii.

The answer is yes, it is possible.
You can have a day trip on your own or take a tour.
I visited there by car which takes about two and a half hours.
Pompeii is a huge place with full of history. For this reason, I prefered to wear something comfortable to explore the full site in a comfortable way.
I wore black knit dress with boots and completed my look with small bag and a coat.
Vising Pompei takes a few hours (even you visit quickly).
After Pompeii, we were thinking to visit Naples for a delicious lunch but we felt so tired so we decided to spend time in Pompei town insted of Naples.
I visited Pompei a few days before Christmas, for this reason streets were decorated with lights and Christmas tree which was amazing.
I highly recommend you to visit ancient ruins of Pompeii and spend some time in Pompei town.
