My favorite two things about historical movies are costumes and learning new things. While movies are a form of entertainment, there is usually more to take away from them.
Some are an adaptation of real life events some of them provide an information of what history was like during the time they were set. They give an idea of what was their life style and what was worn during those periods.
Especially if you love fashion, historical movies are a great inspiration and a source.
In today’s post I would like to share my favorite historical movies.
Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette won an Oscar for best costumes. Even you are not a fan of historical movies., exquisite costumes and hundreds of custom made shoes make this historical movies worth to watch.
The Great Gatsby
This movie is like heaven to me. I adore Leonardo di Caprio, I adore literature and fashion. The 2013 made The Great Gatbsy offers these three things to me. Amazing costumes showing off the 1029’s upper class. The movie won the Oscar for the best costumes.
This wonderful movie which is an adaptation of Willian Shakespeare’s Macbeth, could not be completed without designer Jacqueline Durran. As a costume designer, she is very creative and succesful. She also designed costumes for Anna Karenina movie.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Elizabeth featured detailed costumes that won an Oscar for costume designer Alexandra Byrne. The movie is a great source to learn fashion during Elizabeth era.
The Age of Innocence
Based on the Edith Wharton novel, The Age of Innocence.
The movie based on life of Queen Victoria. Fashion from that period is presented perfectly, brocade and lace fabrics, variety of colors and fluffy skirts, etc.
Romeo and Juliet
The latest adaptation of Romeo and Juliet’s costumes are fantastic. I am a huge lover of Romeo and Juliet book but I distracted but the costumes during the movie.
This Romeo and Juliet adaptation was comproduced by brand Swarovski which is the first luxury label to go into film making.
Gone with the Wind
The movie is about American Civil war and Reconstruction. Scarlett O’Hara’s gren and gold dress is one of the most iconic looks in cinema costume history.
Adaptation of Anna Karenina i centers around the Russian aristocracy in 1874.. Succesful costume designer Jacqueline Durran took inspiration from 1950s and she mixed with Russian arictocracy fashion elements. The costumes of the movie won an Oscar for the best costume design.
